THE SHORT SHIPS ROWING REGATTA

at Atlantic Challenge, Rockland , Maine

The  2008 Shorts Ships Rowing Regatta was rescheduled once due to the unpredictability of Hurricane Hanna, but finally took place at Atlantic Challenge in Rockland on Sunday, September 14th.  The regatta, sponsored again by WoodenBoat Magazine and The Edge/Inn at Ocean's Edge, featured 13 boats handled by 23 hearty rowers.  Racers followed a 3-mile inner harbor course from the Atlantic Challenge pier, to the lighthouse, along the inside of the breakwater and back to the Atlantic Challenge waterfront.  The boats ranged from an eight-oared rowing gig, manned by our 'Shop apprentices, to sleek rowing sculls, kayaks, an outrigger-canoe and a traditional Susan skiff.  Congratulations to all participants and thank you to our sponsors.
